Summer is very beautiful and worth waiting for because of the long holiday that it promises to bring. However, at the same time, it is hot, sometimes so hot that we cannot stand it. Even if there is some ways that we can resort to when trying to keep our house cool in the summer (4), there are so many cases in which we still have to turn on our air conditioners. But air conditioners use up so much energy and it is also a waste of money if we do not know how to use them improperly.
There the question arises. How can we turn on our air conditioner but save money at the same timee? What are the tips for the most economical use of them? This article will immediately give you the answer.
Where to install your air conditioner
If you place the air conditioner at a hot place, it will have to work much more and consume more energy. Placing your air conditioner at cool place like the West or the North wall of the house will prevent direct sunlight reaching it. The air conditioner will have to work less and therefore, save money.
One more thing to bear in mind when installing the air conditioner is that the outside unit should be placed avoiding source of heat, water or chemical waste.
Prevent cool air loss
Before turning on your air conditioner, make sure you have already closed all your doors and windows. Also, cover all the air vents in your room. That will prevent cool air running out and hot air coming in and thus help the room gets cool faster.
Set the right temperature
One of the biggest mistakes that we make when using air conditioners is setting the lowest temperature available once we turn it on. In fact, this will not accelerate the cooling process of the room but cause waste of energy.
The temperature of 23oC – 28oC is strongly recommended. Moreover, we should not set the temperature lower than outside too much, at most 10oC. If the difference is too big, it may do great harm to children and the olds’ health. If you want the room to be cooled faster, just press the powerful button on the remote control or increase the intensity of the wind fan.
Remember that lowering the temperature just 5oC means that 40% more energy is being wasted.
Electric fans can help
Misunderstanding goes that using fans and air conditioner at same time will use double energy. In fact, fans help make the air circulate more easily and thus accelerate the cooling process. Once temperature reaches the set degree, the air condition will only have to maintain it and therefore consumes less energy.
Keep it clean
In order for your air conditioner to work effectively, maintenance work should not be forgotten. You should have your air conditioner checked and cleared once a year so that it can always be in its good state.
You can wash the sieve of the inside unit once per 1-3 months. For the outside unit, if the fins are too dirty, call the repairers in to help. Too dirty outdoor unit will cause the air conditioner to work less properly and waste energy.
Avoid direct sunlight into your room. You should shut the curtain all day so that sunlight cannot warm your room up. If your room is already cooler than outside, it will take less time for the cooling process to finish. Therefore, the air conditioner will have to work less and thus consume less energy.
Shut it down the right way
Everybody knows that turn off the air conditioner when not in use helps save energy. However, not everyone does it right. Commonly, people use the remote control unaware that the air conditioner is still running and silently consume energy. Therefore, when you want to shut it down completely, use the automat instead of the remote control.
Also, avoid turning on- off the air conditioner too many times continuously. Actually that will waste more energy as the air conditioner needs very much energy to start its working. Then, keeping your room at stable temperature does better help.
Increase the temperature at night
At night, human body does not require low temperature. So try to turn off your air conditioner one or two hours before you go to bed. That will reduce the running time of your air conditioner and thus save money for you.
