What to Do When There’s an Internet Outage

The internet is an essential part of most of our daily lives. Without it, we certainly feel a handicap. But that does not necessarily have to be the case. The most important thing you can do is stay calm. If the internet is on the fritz, don’t worry.

If the problem lies on your end, it could likely be an easy fix. Start by calling the service provider. Customer support reps can confirm whether there is a Spectrum home internet outage for instance. If there is, then you can relax knowing that they’re working on it. But while they fix it, you can still continue to be productive at work. Or stay entertained if it’s your leisure time.

Stay Productive During an Internet Outage

If your office block is facing an internet outage, down worry. It is annoying and it’s not great for your productivity. But there are things you can do to make the most of it.

Get to Your Backlogged Tasks

The most productive way to spend your time is to finally get to those pending tasks. If you don’t have an urgent deadline to worry about, of course. Take the time to compile the report that’s been on your to-do list forever. Or go through your expense receipts. Completing all these small tasks really makes time fly. And at the end of the day, you get to mark them off your list.

Clear Your Inbox

Most of our email inboxes are filled with emails we haven’t had the time to get to. Well, why not now? It does sound a little counterintuitive to say. However, mail managers like Microsoft Outlook actually download all your mail. So even if there isn’t any internet, you can still access those emails. So why not write those replies? And once the internet is back up, Outlook can automatically send them.

Call Instead

Since sending emails isn’t going to get you urgent responses right now, call instead. With the recent growth of platforms like Zoom, we hardly call anymore. But it is still one of the most effective ways to stay productive. Rather than asking for updates on teamwork platforms, give them a quick ring.

Staff Meetings

An internet outage could be a good time to hold staff meetings. You can stay productive by using the time to brainstorm new ideas. Not just that but also get updates on ongoing projects. If there are any pending issues that need to be addressed, now is the time. Remember, you can always get better solutions as a team. Your team might already be pretty tight with each other. Having a good team dynamic is a wonderful thing.

But why not use this time to further your rapport with other teams? Or perhaps other companies in the building or office park. It’s always nice to build a strong rapport with those around you. And not many things help with building relations than a shared experience. In this case an internet outage.

Having Fun During an Internet Outage

We use the internet for more than just work. It is also a key ingredient for our leisure time. Whether you want to watch movies, listen to music, or use social media. All of it requires the internet. Most of us do our reading online as well. So how do you relax and unwind with the internet?

Group Games

If you’re entertaining friends in an internet outage it helps if you have board games. Before the internet became so integral in our lives that’s how we’d entertain. A game of scrabble, connect-four, or battleship can give you quality time with friends. If you don’t happen to have any handy, there’s always charades!

Reading

If you want to unwind after work, you can always pick up a book. A good book can be your best friend in times of need. Go on an Arctic adventure, find love and romance, or be the world’s best spy. Or you could write your own story!

Cleaning

Most people find that cleaning is therapeutic. If you are looking for a way to pass the time, why not do the dishes? Not only will you be doing something productive with your time, but it can also calm you. Research shows that if your personal space is tidy, then you feel more relaxed.

Chores

We all have them. No matter how much we want to believe there aren’t any, there always are. So why not stop stalling and finally sort through your clothes. And while you’re at it, might as well donate those cute jeggings you don’t wear anymore.

So don’t fret if your internet is on the fritz. If the issue isn’t on your end, trust your service providers to fix it. And until then, there are things you can do to be productive at work. Or pass the time at home.

Conclusion

Nobody likes internet outages. And to be fair, people subscribed to great providers encounter this problem very rarely. But it can and does happen. Therefore, it helps to know you can still get on with your life. This is healthier compared to stressing over your work or letting the outage cut into your leisure. After all, the internet will be back up soon! Why not make the most of it?
